B. PARENT/CHILD CONVERSATIONS ABOUT GOSPEL CONCEPTS
C. PROMOTE LITERACY FOR NON-READING ADULTS
GOAL FOR ALL: When a reader can fluently read Level F books he/she should be able to read from the Book of Mormon.
"Book of Mormon Little Books" can be used as supplementary learn-to-read books. The scripted lesson plans include activities using the five essential components (The Big 5) of Scientifically Based Reading Research (SBRR).
THE BIG 5:
The United States Congress charged a National Reading Panel to "assess the status of research-based knowledge, including the effectiveness of various approaches to teaching children to read." The panel sifted through over 100,000 pieces of reading research and in the year 2000 issued a report called Teaching Children to Read. They concluded that children must develop skills in the five critical areas listed above. [http://www.nationalreadingpanel.org]
Each scripted lesson plan design includes activities for all five critical components. These lesson plans are for supplemental instruction and not intended to take the place of a comprehensive research based reading program.
